For the new "three tier" restrictions that have just been imposed, the situation is as follows.

  • Leeds is in tier 2 (alert level high).
  • The railway is continuing to operate trains.
  • Visitors should not socialise with anyone outside their household or support bubble.
  • Passengers should only travel on our trains with their own household or support bubble.
  • Passengers should not book tickets for our trains in groups of more than 6 people.
  • Passengers must adhere to all government rules and guidance for leaving information for "test and trace" and for wearing face coverings.

The safety of our volunteers and visitors is our top priority. We are limiting the capacity on our trains, and allocating seats so as to ensure social distancing. The following measures have also been put in place.

  • Till screens at the Moor Road station.
  • Enhanced cleaning regimes on our trains and at the Moor Road station.
  • Encouraging contactless/card payments at the Moor Road station (but cash payments can be accepted).
  • Sanitising stations at entry points and other strategic locations.
  • Floor markings and signage to remind everyone of social distancing and safety measures.

Yes, government rules require that you wear a face covering within the Engine House building at Moor Road, and on the train. Those who are not required to wear a face covering are:

  • children under the age of 11,
  • anyone who has health reasons,
  • anyone who has a disability that exempts them from wearing a face covering,
  • anyone who is eating, drinking, or taking medication,
  • anyone who is travelling with, or providing assistance to, someone who relies on lip reading to communicate.

We strongly ask that you please do not visit the railway if you are experiencing symptoms of Covid-19.

Also, if you have any underlying health conditions that might put you at risk, then it may be wiser if you do not visit.

Yes, the shop and café at Moor Road are open on any day when trains are running, and are being cleaned after every train.

Yes, the toilets at Moor Road are open on any day when trains are running, and are being cleaned after every train.

Please note that there are no toilets on the train or at Park Halt, and we have been advised that the toilets in the Middleton Park Visitor Centre are closed.

Yes, our free car park is operating normally.

Because the availability of our volunteers has been limited by the corona virus pandemic, we have had to take the following facilities out of use:

  • the children’s play area in the cafe,
  • the Kiddy Rides,
  • access to locomotive cabs in the museum,
  • reserving a coach for a morning or afternoon for a party.

We hope to be able to re-instate these as soon as possible.

This is not necessary, as we can accommodate walk-up bookings. But the capacity of our trains is limited, and if you want to guarantee seats then booking in advance is the easiest way to do it.

Yes, but government restrictions mean that it must not consist of more than six people in total, and they must all be from the same household, or support bubble.

As a consequence, we are not currently able to book a complete coach for one party.

Yes, we can accommodate single travellers as well as households.

Yes, concessionary tickets are available as normal, but they can not be booked online. If you want to book a concessionary ticket in advance you will need to book by telephone.

Yes, two of our coaches have wide doorways specially to allow access for wheelchairs. If you are booking online, please indicate in the “special requirements” box on the booking form that you will need space for a wheelchair.

Yes, you are welcome to do this - but do make sure that you do not miss the last train back from Park Halt to Moor Road.
